Jane competed in the 1994/95 Ironwoman series and the Australian Surf Lifesaving Championships from 1991-95. She also competed in the 200m butterfly and 200m individual medley at Australian National Age Swimming Championships from 1988-92. Her sister Natalie represented Australia at two World Junior Championships.
Jane can wear out a pair of sneakers in 3 weeks during intense training periods. In 1999, she broke legendary Kerry Saxby-Junna's long-standing 20km Australian record. Jane won Australia's first women's Olympic walk medal at the 2004 Athens Olympics. She lead the 20km Walk up to the final 200 metres but was disqualified in front of a capacity stadium at the Sydney Olympics.
