Hobbies: Collecting toy wombats. Jana paints her fingernails and toenails in the colours of the team she represents before competing.
Reasons for
chosen sport:
"I enjoyed the friendships and it grew from there." Her idol is Debbie Flintoff-King, who also happens to be the wife of her coach Phil King.
Other interests: Jana has a tattoo of a bumble bee on her stomach for inspiration; "aerodynamically the bumble bee cannot fly but it doesn't know this so it goes on flying anyway. It means I have been given this body and I'm capable of anything." (The Bulletin 2003)

Jana had surgery on her knee 12 days before competing at the 2004 Athens Olympics where she made it into the final of the 400m hurdles and finished 5th.
