Business career after athletics includes introducing Australia to sporting brands such as Adidas, Le Coq Sportif and Nike, developing health and fitness centres in Australia and the UK, creating the Couran Cove Resort on South Stradbroke Island, and the establishment of CEPA, the Council for the Encouragement of Philanthropy in Australia. Ron is currently (2004), the Gold Coast City Council mayor. |

Ron was given the honour of lighting the Olympic flame at the MCG during the 1956 Melbourne Olympic Games and later captained the Australian team at the 1964 Tokyo Olympic Games.
